Had my friend not pointed out that Emack and Bolio’s was situated on a block that I often pass by, I would have had continued to stroll by it, further delaying myself from trying their famous ice cream. So you can imagine my excitement when I was told that, indeed, the cute little store with a bench in the front was the one and only Emack and Bolio’s where I would finally be able to get a taste of heavenly delight in one of their specialty waffle cones.

Its exterior hole-in-the-wall appearance contradicts that of the interior, where huge menus hug the brightly painted walls of bold colors. A display of their specialty waffle cones is typically one of the first things you see when you enter the shop. A common complaint seems to be the lack of an ice cream showcase, as customers want to be able to see their options instead of having to read off the menu and blindly receive their order.

My recent visit to Emack and Bolio’s ended up with me ordering a scoop of White Pistachio Nut ice cream in a Fruity Pebbles marshmallow covered waffle cone [as pictured], not only because it sounded really good but also because I am a pistachio fanatic [Fun fact: I have a chinchilla named Pistachio!]. The portion of ice cream was fairly generous, and the decorative waffle cone was a nice touch, both aesthetically and tastefully. One thing for sure, I will definitely go again very soon for another outrageous delight!

If you happen to be in the city but nowhere near the village, don’t fret! As Emack and Bolio’s happens to be a chain, there is another store located in the Upper West Side. In the meantime, you can enjoy your ice cream or frappe in the nearby Washington Square Park or aimlessly walk around SoHo with your treat to beat the summer heat!
